Abstract: The significance of core competencies has been recognized in many industries, and as a result, many firms consider these skills when hiring and evaluating employees. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of academic alignment and employer engagement relationships on the integration of core competencies among students at technical colleges. The study adopted the survey research design. In light of the diverse and complex community from which the survey was drawn, a stratified random selection technique was employed to sample 273 technical instructors from a population of 342 in the sample area. The Academic Alignment and Employer Engagement Questionnaire (AAEEQ) was the tool used to gather information from the respondents. Three Technical and Vocational specialists evaluated the questionnaire. For the reliability of the instrument, the data were analysed using the Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient with the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 25. The computed values for the study’s constructs were: Academic Alignment (Career Awareness Activities (CAA) = 0.953, Career Exploration Activities (CEA) = 0.926, Career Preparation Activities (CPA) = 0.967), Employer Engagement (EET) = 0.895, and Core Competencies Integration (CCM) = 0.911. The same tool was employed for the exploratory factor analysis to put the items into the required dimensions. Confirmatory factor analysis, a crucial component of structural equation modelling (SEM), was conducted using Analysis of Moment Structures (AMOS) version 23 to address the research questions and their corresponding hypotheses at a 0.05 level of significance. To address the model identification issues that researchers face in handling each distinct measurement model throughout the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) process, the pooled-CFA approach was employed in this analysis using analysis of moment structures (AMOS) to generate chi-square values, modification indices, and standardised estimates. Specifically, the study used a second-order confirmatory factor analysis. The structural equation modelling (SEM) analysis technique was employed using AMOS to determine the model’s fundamental relationships. The study’s results showed that work-based learning (WBL) academic alignment and employer engagement significantly improved students’ core competencies at technical colleges. Based on the study’s outcomes: i) The government should create a supportive environment that encourages appropriate work-based learning activities to enhance the integration of core competencies; ii) To effectively develop core competencies, technical educators should employ the WBL identified elements in the implementation of the WBL programme at technical colleges.

Abstract: Oil well cementing has always been a vital, indispensable, and costly part of drilling and wellbore completion. Ensuring the production of high-quality cement slurry is crucial for safe and economical oil production throughout the well’s entire lifespan. However, designing the optimal cement slurry for oil wells is challenging due to the several parameters that must be considered to achieve successful cementing. This study examines the influence of the water-cement ratio and temperature on the density and rheological properties of Class G cement slurry. Four cement samples with water-cement ratios of 0.34, 0.39, 0.44, and 0.49 were tested at 25 °C and 45 °C. A homogenous mixture of the slurries without additives was obtained by following American Petroleum Institute (API) standards. The study showed that the density of oil well cement slurries decreased as the water-cement ratio increased. The rheological properties of the slurries decreased with higher water-cement ratios. However, the rheological properties of each water-cement ratio increased as the temperature rose. This demonstrates that the water-to-cement ratio and temperature have a strong influence on the rheological properties of oil well cement slurries.

Abstract: The Internet of Things (IoT) is rapidly evolving into a revolutionary technology, connecting millions of devices and enabling a wide range of applications across industries. However, the tremendous growth of connected devices has raised concerns about the security and privacy of IoT networks. The deployment and distribution of IoT systems make them particularly vulnerable to cyberattacks, unauthorised data access, and control, further emphasising the need for robust security measures. Traditional security measures often fall short of solving these problems due to the scale, diversity, and resource limitations of IoT devices. With its key features, including decentralisation, immutability, transparency, and cryptographic security, Blockchain technology holds promise for addressing these vulnerabilities in IoT. Using blockchain data distribution, data transmitted in IoT networks can be authenticated and secured, ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of users’ sensitive information. Blockchain’s consensus enables secure communication between IoT devices without the need for a central authority, reducing the points of failure and risk associated with middle management. Blockchain also provides robust identity and access management, ensuring that only authorised entities can interact with IoT devices and systems, thereby strengthening privacy and preventing unauthorised access. Integration of blockchain technology with the IoT environment to enhance their security and confidentiality. We investigate how blockchain can be used to protect data transmission, device authentication, and access control in the Internet of Things. We also examine the role of smart contracts in ensuring the security of IoT systems, such as verifying that only authorised devices can access or update critical information. Although the combination of blockchain and IoT has numerous advantages, it also presents several challenges that can impact the performance of IoT systems, including scalability, power consumption, and other related issues. This article also addresses these issues and proposes solutions, including the utilisation of lightweight algorithms and hybrid blockchain architectures. Performance and privacy benefits and improvements of using blockchain. Overall, research suggests that blockchain can enhance the security and privacy of IoT networks, offering a solution and protection against the growing threats posed by IoT systems. The findings Highlight the potential of blockchain to revolutionise IoT security, enabling a safer, more efficient, and more reliable future for IoT applications across various industries.

Abstract: Asset Integrity Management (AIM) is crucial for optimising asset performance by enhancing reliability, availability, maintainability, and safety (RAMS), while minimising operational risks and costs. Failures in critical assets can result in substantial financial losses, safety hazards, and environmental consequences, highlighting the need for proactive maintenance strategies. This study introduces an innovative AIM framework that seamlessly integrates advanced technologies with proven methodologies to address these challenges. The framework combines Machine Learning (ML) for predictive analytics, enabling early fault detection, and Digital Twins (DT) for real-time asset monitoring and simulation. It also incorporates established approaches such as Risk-Based Inspection (RBI), Reliability-Centred Maintenance (RCM), Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and Lean Six Sigma (LSS). This integration forms a holistic, data-driven approach to decision-making, operational optimization, risk reduction, and continuous improvement. A comprehensive literature review identifies critical gaps in traditional AIM practices, particularly the limited integration of emerging technologies and methodologies. The proposed framework bridges these gaps, enhancing asset performance, safety, and sustainability. This research highlights the transformative potential of combining advanced technologies with established AIM methodologies. It provides a strategic roadmap for industries to enhance asset integrity, achieve operational excellence, and promote long-term sustainability. To the author’s knowledge, this is the first study to unify these six methodologies into a cohesive framework, providing valuable insights for implementing advanced maintenance strategies in complex industrial environments.

Abstract: Monitoring overloaded vehicles is an operational aspect of ensuring the safe operation of vehicles and mitigating damage to road pavement. Since the concentration on overloading is claimed to differ by type of truck, with trailers allegedly being more frequently engaged under enforcement, this research aims to explore the differences in overload monitoring among various kinds of vehicles, including trailers, heavy trucks, and light trucks, in intercity transportation. To this end, at the first stage, the effect of the number of weighing stations and cargo trips on overloading detection was investigated through analysis of variance. It is followed by considering the number of registered trucks as an exposure factor to standardize the enforcement rate in the second stage. An adapted version of the Kolmogorov-Smirnov statistical method, known as the threesample test, is finally utilised to investigate the similarity of distribution functions for overloading detection among three types of trucks: trailers, heavy trucks, and light trucks. Data on registered trucks, as well as detected trucks with overloading, across the road network in the West Asian country of Iran, has been collected for a year and then categorised into thirty-one provinces. The results revealed that, whereas the number of weighing stations and cargo trips does not have a significant effect on overloading detection, the similarity of distribution functions for overloading detection differs among the three types of trucks across the provinces. Therefore, not all types of trucks are equally subject to overloading control, and transport authorities should redesign overloading detection approaches throughout the enforcement instructions applied in intercity transportation.
